- Empowered Soul Stealer was added in Update 74 - Season of Raging Heat (15 Aug, 2018) as a season card as part of the Season of Raging Heat.
- In Update 78 - Guardians of the Crystal Spire (9 Oct, 2018) the number of souls that Empowered Soul Stealer starts with if a friendly minion has Rage was increased from 3 to 4.
- In Update 1.3 (17 Jul, 2019) Empowered soul stealer received the following changes:
- No longer gains Marksmanship when summoned.
- Souls gained when summoned increased from 0 to 2.
- Souls gained if a friendly minion has Rage reduced from 4 to 2 (total souls unchanged)
- In Update 1.4 - Sand Wars Expansion! (15 Aug, 2019) Empowered Soul Stealer gained Call Slitherbound
- In Update 1.12 (30 Apr, 2020) Empowered Soul Stealer's speed was increased from 5 to 6
- In Update 1.16 - Nightmares (20 Aug, 2020) Empowered Soul Stealer's attack speed bonus per kill was reduced from 20% to 15%
- In Update 1.17 - Dawn Marshall Valorian (24 Sep, 2020) Empowered Soul Stealer was reworked:
- No longer spawns with base souls
- Rage activator removed
- Now has Sacrifice: gain 1 soul per Slitherbound sacrificed.
- In Update 1.21 (4 Feb, 2021) Empowered Soul Stealer received the following changes:
- Souls gained when summoned increased from 0 to 2.
- No longer has Call Slitherbound
- In Update 1.26 - Best Plan NO PLAN! (1 July, 2021), Empowered Soul Stealer became unable to capture bridges, since it is a flying minion.
- In Update 1.29 - Malediction (21 October, 2021), Empowered Soul Stealer now gains 4 souls when summoned.
- In Update 1.34 - Frost Dragon's Lair (7 April 2022), Empowered Soul Stealer was reworked:
- No longer starts with 4 souls on spawn (but you can still Sacrifice to summon him with more)
- Now has Rage
- In Update 1.35 - Frost Dragon's Lair (5 May 2022), the amount of Souls gained per Sacrifice was increased from 1 to 2.
- In Update 1.37 - Kaboom Kingdom (July 7, 2022), the amount of Souls gained per Sacrifice was increased from 2 to 3.
